Por la noche, varios hombres pomor han traído sus barcos durante el día y se relajan en la cabaña de pescadores a la luz de una lámpara de queroseno. El mayor de ellos llamado Senya Malina (en su nombre es narrado en los cuentos de Pisakhov) les dice que "ha habido tanta falsedad acerca de nuestra región de Arkhangelsk" que quiere dejar las cosas claras y contar toda la verdad y nada más que la verdad. Dicho esto, comienza su primer cuento.

In the evening, several Pomor men have brought in their boats for the day and are relaxing in a fishermen's hut by the light of a kerosene lamp. The eldest of them named Senya Malina (on his behalf is narrated in the Pisakhov's tales) tells them that "there has been so much untruth told about our Arkhangelsk region" that he wants to set the record straight and tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth. With that said, he begins his first tale.
